You will then proceed on a half day city tour of Kigali that includes The Kigali Genocide Memorial Center and Inema arts center. Highlight; Perhaps the city’s best known landmark, and with good reason, is the very insightful and moving Kigali Genocide Memorial standing amid beautiful rose gardens and fountains. The memorial sets out the history leading up to the genocide in Rwanda and also explains other genocides around the world. It includes poignant displays of victims’ photographs and belongings, bringing the realities of the atrocities to life. While it might seem an unusual tourist attraction and can be upsetting, it does help to put into context how and why the genocide happened and to better appreciate just how far the country has moved on together in the intervening years. It also plays a vital role in educating Rwanda’s new and future generations about the genocide. Founded in 2012 by brothers and self-taught painters Emmanuel Nkuranga and Innocent Nkurunziza, Inema Arts Center spurs creativity for personal, social, and economic growth. Nkurunziza and Nkuranga started Inema to tap the untapped potential of art in Rwanda. Their objective is to use creative expression to bring the community and country alive. To provide exposure to creative people and create opportunities for Rwanda's most underserved to use creativity for a productive livelihood. Have lunch at Khana Kazana restaurant. At 14h30, have a leisurely drive to MUSANZE & VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK. Arrive in the evening at 17h00 and assisted with check in at the lodge. Dinner will follow at 19h00. Overnight stay.
Day 3: VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK (GORILLA TREKKING/ PEOPLE & CULTURE) Early breakfast at the lodge and then transfer to the park headquarters in time for briefing at 07h00 before you proceed to the trailhead in time to start your guided Mountain Gorilla trek at 08h00. There is no other wildlife experience quite like an encounter with mountain gorillas. That precious hour spent in their company – watching the group playing, sulking, teasing each other, eating, or dozing just like we do – is extraordinary. And the gorilla tracking safaris in Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park are among the best in Africa. Rwanda is now home to twelve habituated groups of mountain gorillas that are scattered all over Volcanoes National Park. Gorilla trekking can be arduous – some of the groups wander high up the mountainsides – but it is always utterly rewarding. Volcanoes National Park also has a historic connection with gorilla conservation. After this memorable experience, you will return to the lodge for lunch. This afternoon at 14h30– You will visit the Gorilla Guardian village. Gorilla guardian’s village is changing the traditional perception of what constitutes tourism by turning fate into fame through sharing various aspects of rural cultures and livelihoods into tourist attractions and creating income-generating activities for rural poor people that have reformed from living on bush meat and poaching for generations. Return to the lodge in the evening. Relax and unwind. Dinner will follow. Overnight.
Day 4: VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK GOLDEN MONKEYS- KIGALI (02h30 drive) DEPART Today, you have an early breakfast then transfer to the park headquarters for Golden monkey trek briefing which starts at 07h00. We will then transfer you to the trail head of your guided walk that begins at 08h00. The Tracking usually takes about 4 hrs. Once you come to the habituated families, you will spend the allowed one hour with them as they go about their daily life. Trekking to see the golden monkeys is another highlight of Volcanoes National Park. The Golden Monkey (Cercopithecus Mitis Kandti) is a local subspecies of the widespread Sykes Monkey, also known as the “Blue Monkey” and is endemic to the high altitude forests. The monkeys are playful and inquisitive and often spend their time leaping from bamboo branches or frolicking on the forest floor. There are two habituated groups of Golden Monkey, one group comprises around 80 - 100 members and has its home at the foot of Mt Sabyinyo. Return to the lodge after this experience for lunch. Check out, settle extras and set off for KIGALI at 15h00 (based on flight schedule). Arrive at the Kigali International Airport.
